CUSTOM DECKING: Timber & Composite

Timber & Composite Decks Built for Everyday Use
A well-designed deck can completely change how you use your home. At Oliver James Projects, we build custom timber and composite decks that are tailored to your layout, levels and lifestyle, not just a standard rectangle stuck on the back of the house.
Whether you’re extending your living area, levelling out a tricky yard or replacing an old structure that’s seen better days, we focus on clean lines, smart design and a finish that feels right for your home.
DECKING OPTIONS

Timber Decking
Timber decking offers a warm, natural look and feel, can be sanded and refinished over time, and is a great option if you’re happy to stay on top of a bit of ongoing maintenance.

Composite Decking
Composite decking is low maintenance, with no regular staining or oiling required, delivers a consistent colour and finish, and is ideal for busy families or investment properties where you want the look without the upkeep.
Timber or composite?
Which Decking Option Should I Choose?
The right choice really comes down to how you live and how much maintenance you’re comfortable with. Timber is perfect if you love a natural look, don’t mind re-coating every so often, and want a deck that develops character over time.
Composite is the better fit if you’d rather keep upkeep to a minimum, want a consistent, modern finish, and need something that stands up well to daily use from kids, pets and entertaining. When we visit your place, we’ll talk through both options in plain language and match the material to your lifestyle, budget and the conditions at your home.

DECKING FAQ’S
Here are some of the most common things homeowners ask our decking service.
Can you match an existing Alfresco or extension?
In most cases, yes. We can work in with existing slabs, rooflines and doors, and suggest ways to tie old and new areas together so it feels like one intentional space.
How long does a new deck usually take?
Timeframes depend on size, complexity, access and weather, but once we’re on site, most straightforward decks are completed in a matter of weeks, not months. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe with your quote.
Will you remove my old deck?
We can remove and dispose of your existing deck as part of the scope if needed. We’ll assess it during the site visit and include this in the quote if it’s required.
Do you help with approvals?
Some decks require approvals depending on their size, height and location. We’ll let you know early if approvals are likely to be needed and can work in with your certifier or designer where required.
